How to Print & Assemble Digital Sewing Patterns

A simple step-by-step guide to printing & assembling your digital sewing pattern

Digital sewing patterns are a great way to start sewing quickly. You can download them instantly, print them at home, and reuse them whenever you need. If you’ve never used one before, here’s exactly how to do it - step by step.

    1. Download the Pattern File

    - After buying the pattern, download the PDF file.

    - Save it to a folder on your computer where you’ll remember it (for example, a folder called “Sewing Patterns”).

    2. Print the Test Square First

    - In your printer settings, select “Actual Size” or “100% scale.”

    - Do not use “Fit to Page” or “Scale to Fit.”

    - Print just the page with the test square.

    - Use a ruler to measure the square (it’s usually 1” x 1” or 10 cm x 10 cm).

    - If the square is too big or too small, check your print settings and try again.

    3. Print the Full Pattern

    - Once the test square is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.

    - Make sure you print all pages (check if the file includes a printing guide or layout).

    5. Assemble the Pages

Now it’s time to put your printed pattern pages together:

    - Each page will be numbered, so lay them out in order according to the pattern lines.

    - Match up the lines, shapes, and marks across the edges of each page to make sure everything lines up properly.

    - Tape the pages together using clear tape, keeping the pattern flat and aligned.

    - Once all pages are joined, cut out the pattern pieces along the graded lines according to your size XS/S/M/L.

    6. Use the Pattern on Fabric

    You can either:

    - Pin the paper pattern directly onto your fabric and cut around it, or

    - Trace it onto pattern paper and cut from there (this is helpful if you want to adjust the size).

    7. Store Your Pattern

    After sewing:

    - Keep the digital file saved so you can reprint it in the future.

    - Fold your paper pattern and store it in a large A3 folder, or hang it using a clothes hanger with pegs to keep it flat and crease-free.

    - Label it with the pattern name and size.
